Resumo

Esta dissertação apresenta fatos sobre o nascimento, a formação e a obra de evangelização desenvolvida por Robert Reid Kalley, fundador do Congregacionalismo brasileiro. Apresenta a constituição do pensamento teológico e a práxis litúrgica de Kalley. Realiza o levantamento da atual realidade eclesial da Igreja Evangélica Congregacional, comparando-a com as raízes kalleyanas, e retira daí as implicações para os dias atuais. Ao pesquisar-se o pensamento teológico e da práxis litúrgica de Kalley, procuraram-se conhecer, analisar, diagnosticar, resgatar e afirmar os sinais característicos do pensamento histórico, teológico e litúrgico do Congregacionalismo brasileiro, tendo em vista contribuir para o fortalecimento, o crescimento e a estruturação da identidade da Igreja Evangélica Congregacional. O resultado deste estudo mostrou que o resgate das raízes kalleyanas pode contribuir satisfatoriamente para o Congregacionalismo brasileiro, podendo a Igreja Evangélica Congregacional potencializar a sua presença em solo brasileiro.

Abstract

This dissertation presents facts about the birth, formation, and the work of the evangelism carried out by Robert Reid Kalley, founder of Brazilian congregationalism.  It presents Kalley’s theological thought pattern and liturgical customs.  Furthermore, it addresses the present ecclesial situation of Evangelical Congregational Church by comparing it with the Kalleyan roots from which implications are drawn regarding today.  Upon researching Kalley’s theological thought pattern and liturgical customs, scholars sought to know, analyze, assess, rescue, and reinforce the characteristic signs of the Brazilian congregationalism’s historical, theological, and liturgical school of thought while intending to contribute to the strengthening, growth, and structuring of the identity of the Evangelical Congregational Church.  This study’s results showed that by salvaging the Kalleyan roots it has been possible to satisfactorily contribute to the Brazilian congregationalism if the Evangelical Congregational Church is able to increase its presence on Brazilian soil.
